Robinson stars as England seal series win over Pakistan

England wrapped up a commanding Test series win over Pakistan with a 194-run victory at Lord’s, driven by another ruthless bowling display from Ollie Robinson. Pakistan, chasing 389 for victory, were bowled out for 194 as England took an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match contest.

The result gave England their first multi-match Test series win since a 2-1 triumph in New Zealand more than a year ago. It also reinforced the feeling that, under pressure and with the ball moving around on a seam-friendly pitch, England’s attack had the control and precision to finish the job.

Robinson strikes early and often

Robinson once again set the tone. After dismantling Pakistan in the first innings with 4-11, the Sussex seamer returned with 4-24 in 14 overs to complete a superb match haul and crush any realistic hopes of a chase.

His opening burst on Sunday left Pakistan reeling at 7-2, and from there England never allowed the visitors to settle. Robinson’s ability to hit a threatening line and force mistakes proved decisive, especially against a batting unit already under heavy scoreboard pressure.

Pakistan’s resistance comes too late

There was still a fight in the middle order. Saud Shakeel produced a superb 97, mixing patience with counter-attacking intent to keep Pakistan alive longer than many expected. His partnership with captain Shan Masood brought some stability after a chaotic start.

But England kept returning with breakthroughs at key moments. Robinson removed Masood lbw after a review, then struck again when Mohammad Rizwan was trapped while attempting to force the pace. Jofra Archer also played a valuable role, dismissing Babar Azam after a hostile spell that kept Pakistan under constant strain.

Shakeel’s innings was the standout resistance of the chase. He reached 96 before finally falling to Josh Tongue, shortly after a spell that had given Pakistan brief hope of turning a near-impossible task into something more dramatic.

“That was a proper team effort, but Robinson was the difference again,” one observer said of England’s control through the game’s decisive phases.

Abbas earns his Lord’s moment

Pakistan did have one major individual success of their own. Mohammad Abbas took 5-57 to earn a coveted spot on the Lord’s honours board, a milestone that had narrowly eluded him several times before. At 36, the veteran seamer finally delivered the kind of performance Lord’s has long rewarded.

Abbas started the day on 3-48 and added two more wickets as England were dismissed for 208. Dan Lawrence, who had resumed on 50 not out, was bowled after adding just four runs, while Robinson also fell to Abbas, edging to wicketkeeper Mohammad Rizwan.

His teammates celebrated the moment with genuine delight, and Abbas responded in memorable fashion by kissing the turf. For Pakistan, it was a rare highlight in a match that otherwise belonged to England.

England’s bowlers finish the job

The final session belonged to England’s attack. Once Shakeel departed, Pakistan’s lower order quickly folded. Tongue removed Khurram Shahzad before ending the match by having Mohammad Ali caught in the slips by Harry Brook.

England had earlier built the platform by posting 208 and then backing it up with disciplined, aggressive bowling across both innings. The home side did not need a perfect batting performance; they simply needed one more strong burst with the ball, and that is exactly what they produced.

What this means going forward

For England, this was more than just a victory. It was a statement that their bowling attack can dominate in conditions that reward discipline, patience and sharp execution. Robinson’s consistency, Archer’s pace and Tongue’s finishing ability gave the side a well-rounded look.

For Pakistan, the lesson was painful but clear. Their top order could not survive the new ball, and even a magnificent effort from Shakeel was not enough to overcome the damage done early in the chase. The series is already decided, but the final Test still offers both teams a chance to reset and respond.

England leave Lord’s with momentum, confidence and a series wrapped up early. Pakistan leave with individual bright spots, but with too much ground lost in the key phases that decided the match.
