Bangladesh have a fresh face in the mix and a lot to prove. Amite Hasan has been called up for the second Test against West Indies in Sylhet, starting November 5, 2026, after Mominul Haque was ruled out with a head injury. The hosts trail after a heavy defeat, and the pressure is on.
The change is forced. Mominul suffered a head injury while fielding during the first Test and cannot play on. Jaker Ali had already come on as his concussion substitute during that match.
According to the ICC, Mominul must observe a mandatory minimum seven-day stand-down before he can return to competitive cricket. That rules him out of the Sylhet Test and opens the door for Amite.
Najmul Hossain Shanto continues to lead the side as captain.
Amite made his Test debut against Zimbabwe in June 2026. That remains his only Test appearance so far, so this call-up is a second shot at the top level.
The selectors’ confidence rests on his domestic numbers. He has scored 4,040 first-class runs at an average of 50.50, which marks him out as a consistent accumulator on the Bangladesh circuit. Mominul has long been one of the team’s most dependable top-order batters, and Amite is seen as a direct replacement for that role.
Bangladesh actually had their moments in the opening Test. A first-innings total gave them a narrow 27-run lead over West Indies, and the contest looked evenly poised.
The second innings changed everything. Bangladesh could not post a target big enough to defend, and West Indies needed just 170 to win.
John Campbell and Brandon King set about the chase at the top of the order. Their century opening stand effectively ended Bangladesh’s hopes before the middle order was even needed.
King finished unbeaten on 81 and Campbell made 49. West Indies won by eight wickets, with Jomel Warrican prominent with the ball across the match.
| Detail | Figure |
|---|---|
| Bangladesh first-innings lead | 27 runs |
| West Indies target | 170 runs |
| Result | West Indies won by 8 wickets |
| Brandon King | 81 not out |
| John Campbell | 49 |
| WTC position | Fourth to fifth |
The defeat dropped Bangladesh from fourth to fifth in the World Test Championship standings. Every point matters now, and the second Test has turned into a must-win fixture to keep their championship ambitions alive.
A modest chase of 170 is the kind of target a home side expects to defend. Bangladesh will want to be far sharper with the bat this time, and the top order will be under the spotlight.
The full 15-member squad is: Najmul Hossain Shanto (captain), Shadman Islam, Tanzid Hasan, Towhid Hridoy, Litton Das, Jaker Ali, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Nayeem Hasan, Hasan Mahmud, Taijul Islam, Shoriful Islam, Mushfiqur Rahim, Taskin Ahmed, Ebadot Hossain and Amite Hasan.
The squad blends experience with a newcomer. Mushfiqur Rahim and Litton Das offer depth in the middle order, and the spin options of Mehidy, Nayeem and Taijul could shape the contest in Sylhet.
Amite Hasan steps into big shoes at a tense moment. With the series on the line and the WTC table tightening, his second Test cap could be a defining one.
Bangladesh were competitive for long stretches in the first Test but could not finish the job. Sylhet offers a chance to respond, and all eyes will be on how the reshuffled batting order handles the pressure.
