In a shocking development, Indian cricketer Jemimah Rodrigues has been ruled out of the Women’s T20 Asia Cup in the UAE and the upcoming Asian Games in Japan due to a significant hamstring injury. This setback comes as she sustained a high-grade tear during a match with Southern Brave in The Women’s Hundred.
With Rodrigues out of action, Pratika Rawal has been called up for her first-ever T20I. Rawal has been recovering from an injury that had sidelined her earlier, and she was previously set to join Warwickshire for the One-Day Cup. Impressively, in the last five-team competition, Rawal scored 142 runs at an average striking rate of 111.81.
Meanwhile, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is yet to announce who will take Rodrigues’ place for the Asian Games. The changes don’t stop there as India has also dropped Yastika Bhatia, opting for G Kamalini as a replacement and as the back-up wicketkeeper to Richa Ghosh.
India’s first game in the Women’s T20 Asia Cup is set against Thailand on August 30, with the tournament kicking off on August 28. The team faces a challenging group that includes Pakistan and Hong Kong. The coveted final will occur on September 13, with all games staged at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.
The team lineup for the Women’s T20 Asia Cup now includes:
With key players like Rodrigues and Shreyanka Patil missing, the squad will be tested in the face of formidable competition. The absence of both players not only is a blow to India’s hopes but also raises questions about the depth of talent in the team. Fans eagerly await to see how the updated squad performs amid these challenges.
