India’s quest for a third straight ICC Under-19 Women’s T20 World Cup title will begin on January 22, when they open their 2027 campaign against the West Indies. With Bangladesh and Nepal set to co-host the tournament from January 21 to February 6, the stage is set for another showcase of the next generation of women’s cricket talent.

India face early test in Group A

The International Cricket Council confirmed the tournament schedule on Wednesday, October 21, outlining a 16-team competition spread across 41 matches. India, champions in both previous editions, have been placed in Group A alongside Ireland, West Indies and co-hosts Nepal.

The group offers an early test for the defending champions, who will be expected to carry the weight of recent success. India won the 2023 edition in South Africa under Shafali Verma and followed it up with another title in Malaysia in 2025, led by Niki Prasad.

Opening day begins with four matches

The tournament will start on January 21 with four matches across Bangladesh and Nepal. Hosts Bangladesh take on the United Arab Emirates in the morning at Sylhet International Cricket Stadium, before Australia meet Nigeria at the same venue later in the day.

In Kathmandu, Sri Lanka will face Scotland at Upper Mulpani International Cricket Ground, while England begin their campaign against the United States of America. The opening day immediately sets the tone for a busy and competitive group phase.

Balanced draw across four groups

Group B features South Africa, New Zealand, Pakistan and Samoa, while Group C includes Australia, Bangladesh, Nigeria and the UAE. Group D brings together England, Sri Lanka, the USA and Scotland, creating a tightly packed field with several intriguing matchups.

The group stage will run until January 26, after which the top three teams from each group will advance to the Super Six stage. From there, the field will be split into two groups, with the top two teams from each group moving into the semi-finals.

Knockout race set for Chattogram

The semi-finals are scheduled for February 4 at the Bir Shrestha Shahid Flight Lieutenant Matiur Rahman Cricket Stadium in Chattogram, with February 5 kept as a reserve day. The final will be held on February 6 at 1:30 PM local time, with February 7 reserved in case of disruption.

That structure leaves little margin for error once the Super Six stage begins. For teams chasing the trophy, every match from the group phase onward carries knockout-level pressure.

ICC sees tournament as a platform for future stars

ICC chief executive Sanjog Gupta highlighted the event’s role in shaping the next generation of women’s cricketers. He said the U19 World Cup remains a vital stage for young players to step into international recognition and build careers at the highest level.

“The ICC U19 World Cup is the stage that showcases the future of our sport and serves as the ultimate platform for young players to make the leap towards elite careers representing their countries,” Gupta said.

He also pointed to the significance of the host nations, noting that Bangladesh and Nepal have strong cricket passion and youthful populations, making them ideal venues for a global age-group event. With nearly 40 percent of both countries’ populations below the age of 20, the tournament also fits neatly into the region’s sporting future.

Why this edition matters

For India, the storyline is simple: defend the crown and do it under pressure. For the rest of the field, the opportunity is equally clear — stop a dominant side and announce a new generation on one of cricket’s biggest youth stages.

This tournament will not just produce a champion. It could also produce the next breakout stars of women’s cricket, with the world watching closely from the very first ball.
