Bangladesh may have to plan without one of their most experienced batters. Litton Das is a major doubt for the first Test against West Indies on October 28 in Dhaka. A stubborn hip problem continues to linger, and the team is waiting nervously for updates.
Litton Das is expected to miss the series opener at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium. He last featured in a Test match against Afghanistan this month. He was later ruled out of the ODI against Zimbabwe in the tri-nation series.
The veteran reported the hip injury during the UAE tri-series. He looked comfortable batting in the nets at the BCB Academy premises on Sunday, but that has not settled the question of his availability.
According to a Cricbuzz report, Litton is recovering slowly. Stiffness is still the main obstacle to a full return.
The report described an inflammation of a gluteal muscle tendon in the hip joint. That problem ruled him out of the tri-nation series. The inflammation has since subsided and the pain has reduced.
“There was an inflammation of a gluteal muscle tendon in his hip joint, which ruled him out of the tri-nation series. It has now subsided and the pain has also reduced. However, the BCB medical team continues to work on his recovery.”
Even so, he still has some muscular weakness and has not regained full strength.
A member of the selection committee was candid about the situation. Litton looked fluent in the nets, but the management is not ready to commit either way.
“He is in a state where we cannot say he is available or unavailable for the opening Test against West Indies. To be honest, he is 50-50. But we will wait till the end and hope he can recover sufficiently to play the series opener as it’s very important for us.”
That message shows how much Bangladesh value him in the lineup. They are prepared to wait as long as possible before making a call.
The ongoing fitness issues have led the BCB medical team to skip his scheduled test on October 24. The decision suggests caution rather than a rush to get him back on the field.
Another member of the team management explained the thinking behind the delay.
“Litton is able to do his functional training now, but functional training doesn’t mean he is 100% fit. 100% is not really needed, basically, if we can at least cover his minimum requirements, that’s why we might be taking some time.”

Litton is reportedly eager to feature in the West Indies series. But given his discomfort and the grade of the injury, it is unlikely that he will be in the Playing XI for the first Test.
The team management will keep monitoring his progress right up to the toss. Any late improvement could change the picture, but the signs point to caution.
Losing an experienced batter before a home series opener is far from ideal. Bangladesh want a strong start against West Indies, and every selection call now carries extra weight.
The second Test in Sylhet from November 5 offers some breathing room. If Litton misses the opener, that match could become the realistic target for his comeback.
For now, all eyes are on the BCB medical team and on how his hip responds in the next few days. Bangladesh fans will be hoping for good news, even if the odds currently look against them.
