Atal, Rashid surge in ICC rankings after Afghan rout

Afghanistan’s dominant 158-run win over Zimbabwe in Abu Dhabi did more than secure bragging rights in the UAE Tri-Series. It triggered a notable shake-up in the latest ICC Men’s Player Rankings, with Sediqullah Atal and Rashid Khan among the biggest movers after match-winning performances that stood out across formats.

Atal’s century powers a ranking jump

Sediqullah Atal delivered the kind of innings that can change a tournament narrative in one stroke. His 102 anchored Afghanistan’s total of 294 after they chose to bat, and the century earned him a Player of the Match award along with a rise of 12 places in the ODI batting rankings to 20th.

Atal’s climb reflects how valuable a big innings can be in a tightly packed ranking table. In a competition where every strong outing matters, his knock not only helped Afghanistan take control of the match, but also pushed him into a more prominent position among the format’s emerging batters.

Rashid stays clear at the top

While Atal made headlines with the bat, Rashid Khan once again underlined why he remains one of the most feared bowlers in world cricket. His figures of four for 17, including the key wicket of Sikandar Raza, helped Afghanistan dismantle Zimbabwe’s chase and finish the game long before the contest could develop further.

The reward was another boost at the summit of the ODI bowling rankings. Rashid now holds an 80-point advantage over second-placed Abrar Ahmed, a gap that shows just how firmly he has separated himself from the chasing pack.

As one Afghanistan team official noted after the game, “When Rashid gets rhythm and the field starts closing in, the opposition is under pressure immediately.” That pressure was visible throughout Zimbabwe’s innings, which never recovered after early damage.

Afghanistan and Bangladesh benefit in the ODI table

Afghanistan’s strong showing was not limited to Atal and Rashid. Left-arm seamer Fazalhaq Farooqi also gained ground, moving up 12 spots to 46th in the ODI bowling rankings after finishing with two for 15 against Zimbabwe. The result strengthened Afghanistan’s overall presence in the latest update.

Zimbabwe’s Brad Evans was another mover after taking seven wickets across two matches in the tri-series. His efforts lifted him 19 places to joint-65th in the ODI bowling rankings, a reminder that individual performances can still matter even in a struggling team setup.

Bangladesh players make gains despite defeat

Bangladesh also featured in the UAE Tri-Series, and the rankings reflected their individual contributions despite a defeat to Zimbabwe. Tanzid Hasan’s 46 in that match took him up three places to 21st in the ODI batting rankings.

Taskin Ahmed produced one of the more eye-catching bowling updates of the round. His three for 44 moved him up nine places to a career-best 12th, and the section of the rankings from 11th to 20th is now tightly packed, with only 28 rating points separating those spots.

That congestion makes the next few series especially important. One strong spell or one fluent half-century could be enough to trigger another quick climb.

Pakistan Tri-Series also sparks movement

The Pakistan Tri-Series added another layer to the rankings update. Salman Ali Agha’s fluent 107 in Pakistan’s 37-run win over Sri Lanka earned him a one-place rise to 12th in the ODI batting chart.

England’s Tom Banton moved up 16 places to 66th after scoring 57 off 53 deliveries, while Sri Lanka’s Pavan Rathnayake registered the biggest jump in the batting list, climbing 34 spots to 75th. Those gains highlight how a single meaningful innings can reshape a player’s standing quickly.

In the ODI bowling rankings, Pakistan’s Haris Rauf rose two places to 20th and Naseem Shah moved four places to 45th. Afghanistan’s young spinner A.M. Ghazanfar also advanced seven places to 31st, adding to the country’s strong presence in the latest update.

Player Category Movement New Rank
Sediqullah Atal ODI Batting +12 20th
Rashid Khan ODI Bowling Stayed No. 1 80-point lead
Taskin Ahmed ODI Bowling +9 12th
Shai Hope T20I Batting +2 9th

West Indies captain Hope breaks into the top ten

The T20I rankings also saw a significant change after the West Indies’ four-match series against India ended in a 2-2 draw. Captain Shai Hope played the standout innings, finishing unbeaten on 102 in the fourth match and moving from 11th to ninth in the T20I batting rankings.

His teammate Sherfane Rutherford also climbed after an unbeaten 49 off 26 balls, rising six places to 18th. Spinner Gudakesh Motie was rewarded for his influence too, moving up 10 places to 26th among T20I bowlers.

These updates underline a familiar truth in international cricket: rankings can shift fast, but only for players who deliver in high-pressure moments. For Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Pakistan and West Indies, the latest week brought proof that one impactful innings or spell can transform the numbers.

With major series still shaping the calendar, the battle inside the rankings is set to stay just as intense as the cricket itself.
