The Pakistan Super League could be going global in a big way. A franchise owner has reportedly suggested China as the venue for the PSL 2027 player auction. The move would mirror the IPL’s overseas auction playbook and spark fresh debate across the cricket world.
According to Pakistani journalist Saleem Khaliq, one of the PSL franchise owners has put forward China as the host for the upcoming player auction. The idea is bold, and it has already got fans talking.
Pakistan and China share a bond often described as that of “Iron Brothers”. The proposal would carry that friendship into the cricket arena and give the league a fresh stage for its biggest off-field event.
The Pakistan Cricket Board has not yet reacted to the suggestion. The final venue for the auction, scheduled for January 23, 2027, has not been decided.
The idea is not without precedent. The BCCI has taken the Indian Premier League auction outside India three times. The UAE hosted it twice, and Saudi Arabia hosted it once.
Moving the PSL auction abroad would be a clear attempt to widen the league’s global reach. Whether China becomes the next stop remains to be seen.
The PCB has already unveiled the complete pre-season roadmap for PSL 12. The tournament will run from March 18 to May 2, 2027, across 46 days. It features 44 matches, made up of 40 league games and four playoff fixtures, at five to six venues.
| Phase | Date | Milestone |
|---|---|---|
| Roster Building | 23 October 2026 | Direct Signings Open |
| Strategy & Planning | Late October 2026 | PSL Cricketing Workshop |
| Roster Deadline | 23 November 2026 | Direct Signings Deadline |
| The Big Event | 23 January 2027 | PSL 12 Player Auction |
| Tournament Kickoff | 18 March 2027 | PSL 12 Begins |
| Championship | 2 May 2027 | PSL 12 Final |
The direct signings window opened for all eight franchises on October 23. Teams have until November 23 to finalise their picks before the focus shifts to the auction.
Under the new rules, every franchise can directly sign one marquee player who did not feature in PSL 10 or PSL 11. That opens the door for some big names to return to the league, and it adds a fresh strategic layer to squad building.
The PCB has also planned a workshop for next week. Franchise officials will discuss the player retention deadline, the pre-auction trade window, auction rules and playing conditions.
These talks could shape how aggressive teams get before the auction. Clarity on trades and retentions will matter just as much as the venue.
In another major move, the PCB has aligned its domestic calendar with the PSL pre-season cycle. The National T20 Gold and National T20 Silver tournaments will act as the main talent-identification events ahead of the PSL 12 auction.
The board says the step is aimed at strengthening the country’s cricketing pipeline. Its official release explains the thinking:
“The National T20 Gold and National T20 Silver tournaments will serve as the primary talent-identification and player-pathway events ahead of the HBL PSL 12 Player Auction – offering outstanding domestic performers a clear and direct route from national circuit cricket into the country’s premier T20 franchise league and onwards to national team consideration.”
For young players, the message is simple. Perform on the domestic circuit and the PSL auction is within reach.
Domestic performers now have a direct line into franchise cricket, which should raise the stakes in every National T20 match. Fans can expect fresh faces to make the auction list.
All eyes are now on the PCB. Will it back the China proposal or keep the auction at home or in a traditional venue? The answer could define how far the PSL travels in its push for a bigger global footprint.
For now, the countdown is on. The direct signings window is open, the workshop is days away, and the PSL 12 auction on January 23, 2027 is firmly on the calendar. The venue is the only question left hanging.
