WTC 2029 Final Dates Locked In as T20 World Cup 2030 Gets Pushed

adminCricket9 hours ago9 Views

The ICC has locked in the dates for the 2029 World Test Championship final, and England is once again the stage. The red-ball showpiece will run from June 8 to 12, while a wider schedule shake-up also pushes the 2030 T20 World Cup and the 2028 Olympic qualifiers.

WTC 2029 Final: Dates Locked, Venue Still Pending

According to a Cricinfo report, the ICC has fixed the 2029 World Test Championship final for June 8 to 12. The tournament will be played in England, as every final so far has been.

The venue, however, has not been decided yet. Fans will have to wait to find out which ground gets the big stage.

Three different English venues have hosted the final so far. That history makes the 2029 decision an intriguing one.

England’s Long Hosting Run

England hosted the first three finals and will keep hosting for some time. The ECB has been awarded the rights to stage the next three finals in London in 2027, 2029 and 2031.

In July 2026, the ICC confirmed that The Oval will host the 2027 final from June 9 to 13. That makes the 2029 venue the next big question on the calendar.

Year Venue / Dates
2021 Rose Bowl, Southampton
2023 The Oval, London
2025 Lord’s, London
2027 The Oval, London (June 9-13)
2029 Venue to be decided (June 8-12)

Olympics 2028 Qualifiers Postponed

The scheduling changes go beyond Test cricket. The Olympic qualifiers were originally planned for 2027 but have now been pushed into early 2028.

That leaves less than six months before the start of the LA28 Games. The turnaround will be tight for the teams chasing a spot.

Who Is In Line for LA28?

December 31 is the cut-off for the top four teams on the ICC T20I rankings. They secure the slots reserved for the top teams from Africa, Asia, Europe and Oceania in the men’s category.

At present, India, Australia, the UK and South Africa are the sides going through. Host USA takes the fifth spot, and the remaining team will have to earn the last place through a qualifier.

That final berth could turn into a high-pressure fight, with everything riding on one event.

T20 World Cup 2030 Moves to July-August

The 2030 T20 World Cup has also been rescheduled. The tournament was earlier set to begin in June but will now be played in July and August.

It is a notable shift for a global event that has traditionally slotted into the early summer window. Boards, broadcasters and players will all need to adjust their plans.

Back-to-Back World Cups in 2028

The 2028 calendar is shaping up to be a busy one. The women’s and men’s T20 World Cups, scheduled for Pakistan and Australia/New Zealand respectively, will be played back-to-back with only an 11-day gap between them.

That is a tight turnaround for organisers and fans alike. It also means a packed stretch of world-class T20 cricket in a short span.

Event Update
WTC 2029 Final June 8-12, England, venue TBD
Olympics 2028 Qualifiers Moved from 2027 to early 2028
T20 World Cup 2030 Moved from June to July-August
2028 T20 World Cups (women’s and men’s) Back-to-back, 11-day gap

Why These Changes Matter

Early date announcements give teams, broadcasters and fans time to plan years ahead. The WTC final dates also confirm that Test cricket’s biggest showpiece keeps its early-summer slot in England.

The Olympic qualifier delay adds pressure on the teams still chasing a LA28 place. With only one slot left to be contested, every result in the T20I rankings race could count.

The venue for the 2029 final is the next piece of the puzzle. Stay tuned as the ICC reveals more.
