Unforgettable Test Match Ends in Draw

In a dramatic finish at the Sinhalese Sports Club in Colombo, India and Sri Lanka played out a challenging draw in the second Test, denying India a decisive 2-0 series sweep. India found themselves in control with a commanding early lead, but Sri Lanka’s resilience in their second innings was remarkable, showcasing their fighting spirit.

India’s Dominance in First Innings

India made their mark early in the match by declaring at a massive 503/9. This impressive figure was anchored by standout performances from several players. Devdutt Padikkal was instrumental, scoring a well-crafted 117 runs off 193 deliveries, which set the tone for India. Following him, Rishabh Pant contributed a quickfire 63 runs, while Dhruv Jurel became a significant contributor down the order, remaining unbeaten on 115 runs off 177 balls, helping propel India past the 500-run mark.

“By posting 503, we really took charge of the match,” said an elated Padikkal post-match.

Sri Lanka Fights Back in Second Innings

Despite a shaky start in their first innings where they were bowled out for 290, Sri Lanka’s determination showed in their second innings. Forced to follow on, the hosts clawed back with impressive grit. Pasindu Sooriyabandara led this charge with a resilient 92 from 173 balls, supporting the unyielding Sonal Dinusha who was the star of the innings, finishing unbeaten on 133 off 264 deliveries.

India’s Bowlers Persist

Even though India’s bowlers showed their skills, claiming critical wickets and pressuring the batsmen, they could not secure the victory. Prasidh Krishna, Manav Suthar, and Saransh Jain each took wickets, but Sri Lanka managed to reach a drawn outcome at 429/9.
